This Cute Old Couple I Met
Found myself kid-free for a few hours (rare), so went to the beach to read.
2 weeks off Instagram update
Good morning! So 2 weeks since deleting Instagram off my phone, and I thought I'd have more withdrawals… But it's actually been so good aye. I only signed into it once on my laptop this week just to catch up on some messages and reels sent to me. And I really enjoyed the 15 minutes or so I spent on there. It was intentional, and so different to it always being so easily accessible on my phone.
There was definitely a few times where I wanted to reach for Insta out of habit, like yesterday Mylee and I went for a walk with Lexi and when we got back I laid on the lounge and was like "um, what do I do now?" And I thought to myself how naturally I would definitely hop on Insta right now to scroll. Instead I popped the TV on, but after 5 minutes I turned it off and had a nap with Lexi. (Was the first day of my cycle, so was nice to get some extra rest)
If you have a social media problem like me lol, definitely consider having a little detox, even if it's just deleting the apps for a weekend. See how you feel during and after it!
Cute story about this old couple I met
Without sounding too woo-woo, I definitely think we give off energy… (ever been feeling good and happy and then someone comes home in a bad mood and then it affects how you feel?)
Well I dunno, but I think my energy has someone changed?! Last Sunday, it had been so rainy and wet, but the girls wanted to go to a playground, so I packed us all some lunch, and we went to our local shopping centre. We went and bought some gifts for one of the preschool teacher's who's having a baby soon. Then we got a table near the indoor playground there, had lunch and the girls played while I read my library book.
There was this old couple who came and sat at the next table. After a while, the man said "this girl's highlighting her book, I think it must be homework." (Don't worry, I wasn't highlighting a library book lol, I was just popping a few sticky notes in, that will come out later haha) And we all laughed and I said that I just do it because I've got the memory of a fish and it helps me focus and remember key points. Then the man tells me a fun fact about how fish actually have really good memories, and then we ended up talking for ages! They showed me pictures of their little chihuahua's (bro the googling I just had to do to figure out how to spell that tho…) and told me how they've taught them to use a litter box which I found hilarious. After telling them about Lexi, they said I should try the litter box for her haha. I said that I just leave the back door open a little bit for her and she goes out whenever she needs to. They said I should pop a doggy door in for her and I asked if it's easy to do, like do you need to buy a special door that has the doggy door on it, or is there a way to get the doggy door into an existing door? They were explaining it to me and then the kids wanted their water bottle filled up. So I asked my new mates if they could watch our stuff for a minute while I went and filled up their water bottle. When I came back they asked if I was on my own with the kids and I said yes, and they said if I can find a doggy door, apparently there's some on Gumtree, then I can give them a call and they are happy to come over and install it for me. They said it should only take about an hour, and the woman gave me her number. How lovely and sweet! I asked how they knew I was on my own with the kids, and she said because I was asking questions on how to install a doggy door haha. We ended up talking for ages, and I felt so good afterwards. How nice it was to have a conversation with some random people at the food court of a shopping centre.
I've never done that before… I wondered if maybe I looked more approachable because I was reading a book instead of staring at my phone… Or maybe my energy has changed since my little quarter-life crisis… Or maybe they're just a really sweet couple who normally do this… I don't know… But I felt so good after it, and it was a much more memorable connection than with a random on the internet.
Book I'm Currently Reading
I had recently borrowed Don Walker's book Shots from the library, but I didn't finish it, I wasn't enjoying it. Was a bit too poetic for me (he's a songwriter, what did I expect lol), and I was just wayyyyy to confused with what he was going on about. So I took that back to the library and have now borrowed a fiction book called Weekends With The Sunshine Gardening Society by Sophie Green. So far I'm loving it! What are you currently reading?
